The Kings were active in the 2nd round, trading future 2nds for the chance to fill up their roster with cheap depth.
We came in with the #20 pick, the Pacers 2011 2nd rounder, the Kings 2011 2nd rounder, and the Kings 2012 2nd rounder.
We came away with 4 players. I'll take a moment to break down our initial impression, and mention my best case scenario for their development with very minimal (but some) ATC's.
PG Ben Hansbrough - Mississippi State - Hansbrough comes in with a good outside shot, decent handling and defense, and B potential.
We're not sure if he'll get more than 5 minutes a game this season, but we're hoping that he can develop into a solid point guard.
Absolute best case for Hansbrough:
Inside Scoring: C+
Outside Scoring: A
Handling: B
Defense: B-
PF Duke Crews - Tennessee - We were hoping for an energy guy off the bench to rebound and play defense. Crews would need some luck in development to be a viable scorer.
However, with his defense and rebounding close to being pretty solid already, Crews could get some burn off the bench. That's about all I can ask from a 2nd rounder.
Absolute best case for Crews:
Inside scoring: B
Outside scoring: C
Handling: C-
Defense: B
Rebounding: A-
SF David Lighty - Ohio State - We know we'll be in trouble if Lighty ends up seeing much playing time, but his defense looked good at draft time.
With a little improvement, there's a chance that he could be a defensive stopper off the bench. Offensively, he could turn into a mediocre inside-outside scorer to make it bearable to have him out on the floor for his defense.
Absolute best case for Lighty:
Inside Scoring: B-
Outside Scoring B-
Handling C+
Defense: A
Rebounding: C
PG Edgar Sosa - Louisville - Sosa is a young lightning-quick guard that doesn't have the size for defense and doesn't have the size to be a great scorer, but he can dish the rock.
With some luck in development, I believe Sosa can be a viable backup point guard. With the logjam of PG we ended up with, he may be shipped out in a trade, however.
Absolute best case for Sosa:
Inside Scoring: C+
Outside Scoring: B-
Handling: A
Defense: B-
