The 2010 off-season for the Orlando Magic features four new players who came from the draft and well be suiting up the Orlando Magic jersey this coming new season. Four young rookies, with three being picked in the 1st round and the other one as Orlando Magic's sole 2nd round pick. The three were assured for a spot on Magic's active playing roster, while the other one has yet to prove more this training camp whether if he is worthy of a spot on the roster and not on the injured-reserve list.
The Orlando Magic ended up having three lottery picks in the first round, landing the 3rd, 9th and 11th pick of the rookie draft. Magic's front office did not waste any precious time to had their plans for the off-season being executed starting with the rookie draft.
2010 1st Round, 3rd Over-all Pick
Danilo Gallinari - Armani Jeans Milano, Italy
Danilo Gallinari, the third over-all pick of the draft is also Magic's third Italian player to suit up for the team. Many player scouts and/or sports analyst were shock or somewhat devastated when Magic went in to pick Gallinari at 3rd, as some analyst were saying that he was picked to early in the draft. Magic's GM is somewhat fond of having European basketball players in his team, as this was the second straight rookie draft that the team had picked a player outside the U.S. of A. Nevertheless the management still look at it's pick as a valuable gem, considering Gallinari as a valuable addition to Magic's offensive fire-power, as this young guy also brought with him some useful arsenals at his position. He might be in need to bulk up but his handling skills at that height can't be denied to be an additional plus factor in his game. The Magic is looking forward to what Danilo Gallinari could contribute for the success of this franchise.
2010 1st Round, 9th Over-all Pick
Victor Claver - Pamesa Valencia, Spain
Magic's 9th over-all pick was considered by the management as the rumor breaker for the team. Before the off-season had started, trade rumors came to the scene that involves Magic's sophomore versatile forward Michael Beasley, but the management remained silent with this issue trying not to break any glass so as not to destroy it's off-season plans. Indeed the plan went perfectly will according to the management after they picked Victor Claver from Spain, joining the other Spanyols in Orlando, and thus ending the rumored trade of Michael Beasley. On the other hand, the drafting of Claver didn't stopped some sports analyst on criticizing the Magic's front office for picking another European player and duplicating the number of small forwards the team already own. Despite the critics, the management still manage to smile after drafting Claver, at 6'10 he can play both the forward positions and also showed some good signs of improvement as he will learn more along the way. Claver also possesses some deadly outside range and athleticism as a European player and he will likely show more of his stuffs this coming 2010 season with the Orlando Magic.
2010 1st Round, 11th Over-all Pick
J.J. Hickson - North Carolina State
Orlando Magic has been known for having outside shooters, and a very small front court anchored on LaMarcus Aldridge and Tyler Hansbrough, but Magic's 11th pick will be giving some needed help to the team's frontline. Out from North Carolina State, the Magic picked mobile big man J.J. Hickson which will add bulk to the team's small front court. The plan for this rookie draft went well according to Magic's GM, adding in Hickson will surely help Aldridge and Hansbrough at the front court, their mobility will be their factor when inside the playing court. Hickson has enough strength and agility to play against the hulking big man in the league, his defensive talent is the main reason why the management picked him at the 11th and not worrying on the offensive end Hickson has, as the team is already loaded with offensive minded players. Orlando's trio of Aldridge, Hansbrough and Hickson could be small but they will provide the much needed defense and rebounding for the Magic this coming 2010 season.
2010 2nd Round, 35th Over-all pick
Raymar Morgan - Michigan State
Entering the 2nd round of the 2010 rookie draft, the Orlando Magic tried to trade it's 8th pick in the 2nd round before making a decision whom to pick, but it seems nobody was interested so the front office of Orlando Magic decided to picked Raymar Morgan out of Michigan State. Raymar Morgan is an athletic young guy who could provide instant offense to any team if given the exact amount of playing time, Magic's scouts sees that Morgan still has much room to improve his game, he must show his skills and what he is capable of doing when inside the court this upcoming training camp of the Orlando Magic, so as to be included on the team's active roster.
