Technically you're not trading the Bird rights, just that the only way they clear is if a team renounces their rights to them before FA to clear up space or if another player signs them in FA. Bird rights don't reset for trades.
The layman's guide to Bird years is you get one for every year. When a player has 3 Bird years, you can go over the cap to sign them. When a player has 2 Bird years, you can go over the cap to sign them, but you're limited to some amount over their last contract (125%?). When a player is traded, that doesn't reset their Bird years as I mentioned before.

Bird years are not a huge factor due to the re-signing policy we have. FBB doesn't make it that easy to incorporate.
