The Lakers finished with the same 41-41 record as last season, but this season that led to a #6 seed in the West. Although the Lakers were ousted in the 1st round by the Suns, the team has a lot to build on going forward into next year.
The identity of the team has shifted somewhat with the team leader Kobe only playing 40 games with a number of injuries and the aquisition of Dwayne Wade. Kobe had been shooting a career best 52% from the field before his injury.
Wade avg'd nearly 28 ppg , 6.6 rpg and 4.2 apg while leading the Lakers back to the playoffs.
Andew Bynum picked up his game by scoring a career high 16.4 ppg and 9.9 rpg with 2.3 bpg. He has become the center the Lakers had hoped for and he should continue to improve this offseason.
Richard Jefferson was a man at the beginning of the season that management wanted to deal, but once Wade became available and Chandler was dealt, it became evident that RJ would stick around. He responded by having a quality season with a 15 ppg avg and nearly 8 rpg playing at the #4 spot.
The final starter PG Jarvis Crittenton a 21 year old who is in his 3rd season with the Lakers had a career year distributing the ball, which could have been a fact of having Kobe and Wade on the same team. Crittenton looks to improve this offseason and hopefully join the elite PG's next season.
The bench play was strong led by Jordan Farmar, Marc Gasol, Aaron Gray and Luke Walton, the bench should see an overhaul next season.
Overall the Lakers hope that this season is a step in the right direction and that next season the team can sign both Kobe, Wade and Crittenton to long term contract extensions.
