Jermaine O'Neal: Loyalty: 25 Greed: 27 Play For Winner: 12
Elton Brand: Loyalty: 39 Greed: 79 Play For Winner: 14
Both players are 31 years old, average similar stats. Brand agrees to a one year contract extension of 11 mil, and JO rejects an identical offer.
Whats the formula used for these? Because all I can conclude is that these re-signings are arbitrary at best.

As far as I know, they abandoned the formula and went to the game's resigning engine.

its a bit of both, o neal for the record is in the game. Just so everyone knows again this is how it works. I will always go by the game if the game gives me the contract the player wants. However for a good amount of guys, the game decides certain players want to test the market. Now I dont think thats too fair, because its really just random. So I then go to a formula that is not perfect but is close to the kind of contracts the game spits out. So there it is. Also Heat cmon man, what is this 3 years in a row now? You know this is how it is, and will continue to be. So best I can say is just accept this and move on. Hell try trading O Neal even, just know that until I say something else, this kinda way of contracts will continue to be used.

It's not perfect, but I think it's better the relying on the game to tell us who will be a FA and who won't be.
It's not like the contract for Jameer Nelson was really "fair", but oh well. I can work around it and so can other GMs if they're worth their salt.

There is a serious flaw with how this system works. I totally understand and agree that using the game's demands should be used first. If FBB says JO wants a 5 year contract starting at an absurd 20 mil, then so be it. So the flaw exists with whatever formula you use. When a player like Brand, with twice the greed rating compared to loyalty (a greed rating of 80 is probably why FBB said brand would test the market), signs a measly 11 mil contract it shows that your formula is out of sync with FBB (the standard that the majority of player re-signings are processed by).

Honestly, I'd just consider it a variance in the league. Why do certain players with less talent demand way more money in real life? It has a lot to do with leverage and who your agent is. We don't sit there and say this guy's stats are exactly the same as another player's, so they HAVE to demand the exact same amount of money. Let's face it, FBB is a game that is 7 years old and it's support as far as running a league is HORRENDOUS. Re-signings aren't a perfect science, and I've never seen a league that they are.
What do you suggest as an alternative? That would be my question.

What do you suggest as an alternative? That would be my question. let players test free agency for one. i mean a diluted FA class is fun and all, but this league gives you three avenues to get a player back (re-signing process, take the demand at the end of the season, or use ATCs to extend). and if you want to go a different route, use the formula for all re-signings.

Maybe Brand just likes being the #1 seed in the east...

Maybe Brand just likes being the #1 seed in the east... yes, with such a high play for winner rating (14). maybe his "play for an underachiever" rating is in the 80s.

im cool with the league discussing it, just know it wont change, so you can voice out all you want, but its at a mute point, because its not getting changed.
Edit: Reading what I wrote that kinda sounds dickish, but its not meant to be. Really guys this is something that yah wed all like to be better, but its not going to change now, nor in the future in all honestly most likely. Its not really fair to let guys walk, and when they do walk, they just re sign up with the team usually that they just left. Im looking out for the league here in all honesty. Personally id be fine with letting guys walk that wanna walk, sure it would make fa exciting. The problem is though a lot of main guys will walk, and its not really fair or realistic. This whole sittuation could be better, but the way this game is set up, its a roadblock we have gotten a hold of, and made it better. Its something where as a league we have to accept and just move on.
