Game 1
Kings win 125-99
Jamont Gordon, Carmelo Anthony, and Shawn Marion were all effective scoring and the defense held down the Clippers offensive attack really well. A 33-16 3rd quarter was key in the victory. The Kings shot 54% from the field, 47% from three, and 90% from the free throw line. 12 turnovers on a 125-pt scoring night means we were very efficient with our possessions.
Game 2
Kings lose 108-103 in OT
Baron got in some foul trouble, and the Kings as a whole decided to turn former 2nd round pick Matt Bouldin into an All-Star for a night. Bouldin went off for 24 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds. Shawn Marion and Baron Davis has attrocious offensive games, leading to a bad home loss against a lesser team. The Kings only committed 8 turnovers and scored 103, so they were efficient, but shooting 38% from the field doomed them.
Game 3
Kings win 103-86
The Kings took care of business and only committed 10 turnovers and held the Clippers to only 86 points. Shooting 46% was the difference from Game 2. Hawes was 2 assists from a triple-double, and won player of the game honors. Carmelo was good, scoring 29. Forcing 16 turnovers was another key to the win.
Game 4
Kings win 79-77
The Clippers put the clamps on defensively to look good in front of their home crowd, but so did the Kings. Kings committed 13 turnovers on their way to 79 points, so that's a bit reckless. Poor shooting on both sides turned this game into a pretty ugly one. A dominant effort in the 3rd quarter held the Clippers to 10 points and made the 4th quarter a long game of catch up, and the Clippers couldn't quite pull it off.
Game 5
Kings win 109-87
Back at home, the Kings found their shot, ending up at 52% from the field. They also got some favorable calls and shot well from the line, finishing 20 of 23. The Kings only committed 10 turnovers, and had good scoring efforts from Carmelo Anthony, Spencer Hawes, and Jamont Gordon.
Series summary -- I don't think the Kings looked that great. The Clippers tended to outrebound the Kings by a little in each game, and the Kings went through some serious shooting woes. I did like the turnovers staying down, but I became worried about what would happen when we faced an elite defensive team. Pace-wise, I thought scoring 103.8 per game and allowing 91.4 per game showed we were able to dictate the pace and exert our defensive prowess over a lesser opponent. The Clippers do have some things going for them with a good interior presence -- a couple 7 footers. It seems that they are really strong rebounding wise, and they have a lot of promise and room to grow to a better team. When it came down to it, they weren't strong enough defensively to play the Kings style and keep us from scoring.
