A quick glance through the awards and it just jumps out at you, the 53-29 Kings didn't win any awards. It's pretty incredible to think about. The slower pace of the Kings probably doesn't do them any favors as they don't put up gaudy offensive numbers. Carmelo was hurt for a while, and seemed to struggle more offensively this year while getting used to Jamont Gordon's added offensive responsibilities.
I also would've thought that Spencer Hawes would have a shot at first or second team defensively at center, but he got beat out by up-and-coming Patrick Pattrerson and CJ Giles. Patterson recorded 4.1 blocks/game and Giles recorded 4.0 blocks/game. Hawes also had 4.0 blocks/game in fewer minutes. All three recorded 0.7 steals per game...not sure exactly where the voters thought the differentiating factor was. If playing time or pace were considered, I would've thought Hawes would make it.
Marion and Carmelo are also A+ defensive players, but you can't argue with Greg Oden and Ron Artest on the first team. Marion added to his shotblocking numbers dramatically and always steals quite a bit for a power forward, but got beat out by Chris Bosh for 2nd team all-defensive PF. Andrei Kirilenko won 2nd team defensive SF because of his shot-blocking prowess I assume, but Melo had more steals and probably has better overall defense.
