TOP 10
#1 : SAN ANTONIO SPURS (5-0)
The Spurs are the defending champions and there looking to repeat. The best defense in the league by far only allowing 78.8 PPG while scoring 102 of there own. Best team by far until someone knocks them down.
#2 : WASHINGTON WIZARDS (4-0)
The Wizards have looked great right off the bat here scoring tons of points. Led by MVP canidate Gilbert Arenas who's averaging 35.5 a game right now. The Wizards are looking like a very dangerous team.
#3 : SACRAMENTO KINGS (4-0)
The Kings got a nice mix of a couple good veterans and some young guns on there team and it seems to be gelling very well. Led by veteran Ron Artest who is averaging 26.8 points per game right now. There playing smart basketball right now and could be just finally gelling and looking to get back into the Western Conference playoffs.
#4: CHARLOTTE BOBCATS (2-0)
A big suprise up in the power rankings but the Bobcats are up here at 2-0. David West probably the best FA pick up is dominating right now for them, averaging 10 more points over his career avg. of 16 points. There playing great defense and PG Raymond Felton is coming to his own distributing the ball for the offense that is very young led by West, Okafor, and Morrison.
#5: PHOENIX SUNS (2-1)
A western conference powerhouse is playing like one still. Nash, Amare, Marion, Barbosa, Grant Hill, and others are scoring at will. The up tempo suns are scoring 114 a game right now but giving up over 100 a game as well. That is to be expected but the Suns need to play some shut down defense if they even want to think about going far. It has eluded them every season.
#6: DENVER NUGGETS (3-1)
The Nuggets even without Allen Iverson for there last few games have looked very good while Iverson was out after getting hurt in the second game of the year. Carmelo is leading the team with 30 points per game but a lot of the role players have stepped it up big time. Both PGs Anthony Johnson and Chucky Atkins are playing great ball for them right now, watch out for these boys.
#7: CLEVELAND CAVALIERS (2-1)
The Cavaliers , the Eastern Conference champs of a year ago have started out well here to open the season. LeBron is looking great putting up 33 , 7, and 3 right now. I'd expect his assists to go up more as time goes on but the other players are really stepping up. Z, Hughes, and Gibson are playing great ball for them right now, if they continue this, expect them right back in the hunt to go to the Finals.
#8: DALLAS MAVERICKS (2-1)
The Mavs, the best team in the league last year during the regular season is off to a really slow pace. There new coach has really messed with the line-up Jason Terry only getting 17 minutes a game as they let Devin Harris get the starting role. Dirk, Howard, and Harris are playing great but the other needs to keep it up if the Mavs are going to continue to be a Western powerhouse.
#9: CHICAGO BULLS (1-1)
The Bulls have a great young defense and it is going to help this team win ball games all season long. Noah, Ben Wallace, Aaron Gray, and Tyrus Thomas are just killing people down low and the Bulls are repeaping the benefits of it. Deng, Gordon, and Hinrich need to hit there jumpers outside and there wont be a team in the league who can battle with this front court downlow maybe other then the Spurs.
#10: ORLANDO MAGIC (3-2)
The Magic led by a young nucleus of Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Rashard Lewis, and J.J. Reddick have been playing extremely well. Howard is dominating down in the post putting up 32.4 PPG as Rashard Lewis is getting 16.2 and Nelson with 19.4 PPG. These boys can be a real tough test for any team, any night. Let's see if they can keep it up!
