Associated Press -
Although it's still early November, it hasn't stopped 3 of college basketball's biggest names from declaring for the 2009 NBL Draft.
The first early entrant is pretty much a no brainer, SG Eric Gordon, a Sophomore from Indiana. Gordon is a fabulous outside shooter with good handles and decent size for the position. He is a poor man's O.J. Mayo as far as overall game goes, but he is a better pure scorer and is just as good or better defensively. Gordon decided that 2 years at Indiana was enough as he proved he is clearly ready for the NBL.
The second early entrant is a bit of a suprise, at least to some NBL scouts. PG D.J. Augustin has decided to forego his Senior season at Texas and enter the 2009 draft. Some are worried about Augustin's size (both height and weight) and are slightly concerned about his defense. However, he is already one of the quickest basketball players in the world and his passing ability is uncanny. He compares to Derrick Rose, although he is older and isn't quite the athlete Rose is. His offense is better than Rose's and he will compliment a superstar very well as he did with Kevin Durant a few years ago.
The third and final early entrant is going to please those teams who might be looking for a big man. C DeAndre Jordan, a Sophomore out of Texas A&M enters the NBL after carrying the Aggies after the loss of Billy Gillispie and Acie Law IV. He is an incredible defender, with good strength, rebounding and pretty decent inside scoring. At 21, he is still raw, but as far as big men go, he may have the most upside in next year's draft.
Stay tuned for early scouting reports on these guys shortly...
