[glow=red,2,300]PALO ALTO, California[/glow] - For their entire lives, Brook and Robin Lopez have ridden together. Playing basketball since they were toddlers on the same floor, they spent their high school days at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno and then committed themselves to play college basketball at Stanford. However, after two relatively disappointing seasons, the Lopez Twins looked to rebound and achieve something in their Junior season with the Cardinal, but it was not meant to be. Only five games into the 2008-2009 season, the 7-foot twins were both dismissed from the Stanford basketball team after numerous problems with violations of team rules. There was no comment from the Stanford Athletic department other than a quote from the University president stating that "neither Robin or Brooke Lopez are the business of this University."
As for the twins, this news was a shock, but for two guys who have dreamed of playing in the NBL, it may be a blessing. Not only will both become eligible for the 2009 NBL draft, they have an extra 6 months of workouts and preparation over their collegiate counterparts. As for the possibility of not playing together anymore, both Lopez twins had open minds and looked forward to playing in the pros, regardless of where. Both also claimed that the twin bond they share can't be broken by distance, and playing for different teams in the NBA won't change that.
Expect early scouting reports on the twins shortly...stay tuned.
