The Sixers are probably in the worst situation in basketball.
They are not playing well enough to do anything, but they are also not playing bad enough to have a high enough draft pick to change the face of the team.
Management refuses to tank the team as shown by winning 7 of the last 10.
TEAM MVP
SHOOTING GUARD: Andre Iguodala is the teams young go to guy. Iggy managed to make the allstar game this year but putting up a great line of offense and defense:
27.3ppg 7.6reb 4.4ass 2.0stls
Andre is 8th in the league in scoring...7th in steals and 3rd in minutes played. He signed a big contract in the offseason and has upped his #'s across the board.
CENTER: Sammy Dalembert
Sammy just signed a 2-year extension. He's our sure-double-double guy. Averaging 13.8ppg and 12.1rebs (6th in the league), Dalembert patrols the middle of our defense. In a league with weak Center play, Sammy is towards the top in Center play in the league. I don't think we're getting anymore out of Dalembert than this. He is what he is.
POWER FORWARD: Tyrus Thomas
Thomas was a nice young offseason acquisition by 6ers management to give us a young PF full of potential. We tossed him into the starting lineup and he's put up a respectable 10.2ppg and 8.6rebs. Whether he was underused or slacked off in Chi-town last year, we don't know but his scoring is up 6+ points a game and 5 more rebounds per game.
SMALL FORWARD: Yi Jianlian
Yi probably won’t be the long term solution at SF, since we drafted Julian Wright to fill this role and Martell Webster isn’t a bad option either. Yi’s 7’0 height makes him a very good option at C/PF. This year at SF his scoring is up 4 points a game to 11.5 and the rebounds are at 6.8. He’s having a good season but with his A potential…we will get more out of him in the future.
POINT GUARD: Dominic James
James has had a very strong showing for his rookie year. This year’s rookie class looks very deep…so we’re not sure where he stands in the ROY competition. He may have a very good shot at the Rookie team this year as the PG. He’s scoring 15.9 points per game…5.3 rebounds and 7.7 assists.
This team is over-achieving and playing .500 ball once again. The Sixers are young and improving, but we’re not sure there’s enough star power to truly compete in the playoffs in the next 2 seasons.
