They looked great, they won seventy games, but they couldn't even make it past the Western Conference Finals.
The Denver Nuggets of 08 got creamed 1-4 to the GSW, the eventual champions of NBL.
How did the best team in NBL (record-wise) history lose so badly?
Game 1
This was an absolute thriller, with both teams playing top quality basketball. In the end, the Warriors managed to pull through: 126-124. This was an important home game for the Nuggets and they blew it.
Allen Iverson had a monster game, scoring 45 pts at 63%, but the Warriors were better all round, with six players averaging double digits; which would be one of the main reasons why the Nuggets would lose.
Game 2
Nuggets won this one 100-93, with JR Smith coming up big with 34 pts. After a terrible first game, the number one option had to step it up. Artest had his 2nd mediocre shooting game going 7-21 but it was all good as the series became level.
Game 3
Probably the worst game ever for the season, no one really knows what went wrong. Suddenly it seemed that only AI was the only capable shooter. What happened to the best offensive team in the league? Ron Artest continued to choke, going 4-22. The Warriors once again had their starting 5 score in double digits.
Final Score: 105-85 Warriors
Game 4
Another close one, and once again the Nuggets got unlucky. Marcus Camby grabbed 20 rebounds and Artest played decent. For some reason Dirk only played 21 minutes, which was less than Linas Kleiza. We know he wasn't injured since he played a lot the next game but....what if the nuggets won that one (sigh)...
Game 5
Back at home, but with lower morale, the Nuggets let the Warriors beat them in the 2nd half and they went home with nothing. Marcus Camby turned it over 6 times, especially at crucial moments which was a reason for the 113-108 loss.
Notes on the series
- Dirk Nowitzki failed to step it up, he wasted a lot of shots and forced many. Expect him to be GONE. He showed he was capable of leading in Sacro, but choked with Dallas. The Nuggets do not want this inconsistent power forward.
- Ron Artest didn't play as well as hoped, he took too many shots in Game 1 and 2. congrats to the Warriors SF for defending him so well.
-Defense- Nuggets failed to stop the starting 5 from scoring buckets on them. Pretty surprising, as the Nuggets have Camby AND Artest
-AI was amazing throughout the series, expect him to be rewarded with a big contract.
-JR Smith is still young, he was very unstable in the playoffs
-The bench didn't do much, the Nuggets will try and sign a good role/bench player in the offseason
CHOKER!
Played great, as usual. If only some of his team mates did better
