With about half the season gone, I wanted to put out the latest update on the Power Factor. There have been some changes since the last edition, and many teams are much closer with their composite scores. Some interesting moves though so let's take a look.
1. Charlotte Bobcats: Total Score = 17 (PR #1 Score 33.7)
The Bobcats remain on top by a wide margin. Most would expect they'd have a better record, but I think they've played a pretty tough schedule as most losses have come to top playoff teams on the road.
2. Denver Nuggets: Total Score = 10.65 (PR #2 Score 15.55)
The Nuggets started slow out of the gate record-wise but maintain the number two spot on the Power Factor. This shows they've been playing solid ball all along, just lost a few close ones early.
3. Portland Trailblazers: Total Score = 7.9 (PR # UR Score -4.7)
The Trailblazers are looking like a tough contender for the Western Conference playoffs. They still struggle from the SG and C positions offensively, but Walker, Oden, and Agustin are filthy.
4. Memphis Grizzlies: Total Score = 5.75 (PR # 14 Score 1.1)
The Grizzlies are back on track, and the trade for Vinsanity only helped them. They're a dark horse candidate to win the the tough West.
5. Miami Heat: Total Score = 4.8 (PR # 15 Score 0.8)
It looks like the trade of Wade helped them, at least in the short term. This team probably doesn't have what it takes to go far in the playoffs, but then again who expected them to be playing this well after trading their star player.
6. NY Knicks: Total Score = 4.15 (PR #3 Score 14.25)
The Knicks are back closer to where they belong. Koufos has struggled at times and Nate hasn't been as good so far from the PG position. A longshot to go deep in the playoffs but still may win the division.
7. Cleveland Cavaliers: Total Score = 3.95 (PR #UR Score -1.25)
The Cavs are starting to put it together and should make the playoffs if they keep it up. A good score here is an indicator they're on the right track.
8. Boston Celtics: Total Score 3.55 (PR #UR Score -3.8)
What could be one of the final runs for the Big Three, but I don't think they'll have enough steam to go deep. Just isn't much help surrounding them.
9. San Antonio Spurs: Total Score 2.9 (PR # 9 Score 3.6)
Only the second team that maintained it's ranking, and I guess they're showing me they belong here. It appears the deal for Curry has realy given them a boost.
10. Phoenix Suns: Total Score 2.55 (PR #12 Score 2.2)
I'm not sure if this team will keep it up, but it looks like they're doing the right things. Will be interesting to see if you can make the playoffs using a SF at PG.
11. Kings
12. Raptors
13. Clippers
14. Hawks
15. Jazz
