Going into the lottery the Nets have a good chance of getting the second pick with some luck the first and with some bad luck the third.
Good news is that they have two targets in mind and that the draft is very deep especially in the lottery section.
The main target has to have three qualifications.
-Must be young and have high potential
-Must be able to score
-Must be able to play a wing position (SG or SF)
The first criteria doesn't eliminate too many guys as none of the guys that we have rated as a top 5 pick (we are pretty sure we won't drop below that) are over 23 or have worse then A potential.
Able to score is a bit harder to fill as some of the guys we have rated in our top 5 are defenders first but none of the guys are bad scorers.
The third criteria is where we eliminate some of the great players of the draft. It is no secret that the team is very happy with PF/C Channing Frye. After a season where on a terrible team he averaged 21/9 plus added 1.8 blocks per game this guy will be in the lineup. At the other big man position we have Brook Lopez who had some monster games at the end of the year and started showing what he may be. We look for him to be a 15/10 guy and help Frye with the shot blocking duties. Add Kristic, Williams and Kmart and the front line is very deep.
Now the bad news, the SF/SG position was a struggle. Kelenna Azubuike is set at one of those spots and has shown that he can play both. He was second on the team scoring 18.5 a game, he rebounds (7 a game) and is a thief. But at the other wing spot we tried many guys and none proved to be of starter quality on a championship team.
So that leaves us eliminating 4 of the guys we have rated in the top 8 as we won't be drafting a C or PF unless somehow we fall out of position to take a wing man.
That leaves us with 4 guys to draft with Gerald Henderson Jr. being picked in the early polls. We have studied the film and while a great fit he has actually fallen to 3rd on our depth chart of guys we want.
Not sure if this helps all the guys picking in front and behind the Nets but I got to keep somethings a surprise.
